The late Ferdinand Marcos was buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (Heroes Cemetery) on Friday, November 18, 2016.
The Supreme Court on November 8 rejected a petition by human rights victims to stop the transfer of Marcos’ remains to the same resting place of former presidents, national artists, and heroes of war.
President Rodrigo Duterte, an ally of the Marcoses, allowed the burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, which was the late strongman’s last wish, according to his family.
Nobody appealed to the Supreme Court to stop it, so the burial of ex-dictator Ferdinand Marcos at Libingan ng mga Bayani proceeded on Friday.
Supreme Court spokesperson Theodore Te said there was no prohibition to the burial because the 9-5 decision of the court on Nov. 8 upholding Mr. Duterte’s decision also lifted the status quo ante order issued by the tribunal in September.
