Hoverboards are a must-have items and are great present for Christmas, but here in the Philippines a priest gets suspended by the church after using one during a Christmas Eve Mass.
In the video, it shows Father Albert San Jose from the Diocese of San Pablo riding a hoverboard while singing during a Christmas Eve mass at the lady of Miraculous Medal church in Biñan, Laguna.
The video garnered 100,000 likes 230,000 shares and viewed 14 million times as of posting.
The video goes viral and gains attention of international media including BBC, CNN, Daily Mail, Russia’s RT, NBC News, The Guardian and many more.
While people seemed to enjoy the rather unusual approach, the trick did not go well with the priest’s bishop.
“That was wrong,” the Diocese of San Pablo, Laguna, said in a statement Tuesday.“The Eucharist demands utmost respect and reverence. It is the Memorial of the Lord’s Sacrifice. It is the source and summit of Christian life,” the Diocese of San Pablo said.
“It is not a personal celebration where one can capriciously introduce something to get the attention of the people,” the statement adds.
The archdiocese has also confirmed that Father San Jose has been temporarily removed from his duties at the parish, so that he can “spend some time to reflect on this past event.”
Father San Jose has apologize about the issue saying that it is “a wake-up call” promising it will never happened again. -John Esconde
